Shelf Stable Just Add Water Bread Mix in a Jar
This recipe is great to have on the pantry shelf for those days you're busy or the kids are helping in the kitchen. With all your bread ingredients pre-measured there is no worry about missing ingredients or not having something on hand. This bread mix just needs 1¼ cups of warm water to have you on your way to a fresh loaf, rolls or buns for your family to enjoy.

- 1½ tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp Powdered Milk
- 3½ cups all purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp yeast
If using a funnel, place funnel in the top of your jar for ease of adding ingredients
Add ingredients in the following order, do not mix ingredients inside the jar as the yeast needs to be separated from the salt
Add salt, sugar and powdered milk to the bottom of the jar.
Add Flour, lightly tapping the jar on a towel if needed to get all the flour into the jar.
Add yeast last on top of the flour.
The jar can be vacuum sealed or capped to go on the shelf for storage. Sealed and stored properly this mix should easily last a year or longer on the shelf
To Make The Bread
Pour contents of jar into a medium mixing bowl, add warm water and mix thoroughly
Once mixed, knead dough for five minutes or until smooth
Form dough into a ball and place into a lightly oiled bowl and cover. Place bowl in a warm place to rise for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
Once dough has risen, remove from bowl, punch down and reform into loaf, rolls or buns and allow to rise a second time for about 30 minutes to an hour until it doubles in size again.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 420℉ for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven, remove from pan and allow to cool before storing
