Easy Dutch Oven Bread

This easy to make bread is a hit in our home especially in the cold weather! Winter days with our wood cook oven going are my favorite time to make this bread, but it can be made any time of year in any oven. The recipe can easily be adjusted to make this plain or with your favorite herbs or parmesan cheese as a great accompaniment to your favorite meal. This recipe will be showing how to make an Everything Bagel bread that we love for breakfast or for making sandwiches. Information on how to adjust this recipe to make a Parmesan-Rosemary loaf is listed in the notes at the end of the recipe.

Equipment

  • 2 mixing bowls
  • 1 set measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 mixing spoon or fork
  • 1 cover for bowl this can be a towel or shower cap
  • 1 Dutch Oven

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ tsp yeast
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • cups warm water
  • 3 cups flour I use all purpose flour
  • tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsb everything bagel mix

Instructions

  • Mix warm water, sugar and yeast in bowl, stir together, cover and set aside for about 15 minutes
  • In a separate bowl, mix remaining ingredients
  • Once yeast mix is ready* mix dry ingredients slowly into yeast mix with a fork or spoon. Dough will be sticky and you may choose to finish mixing ingredients in with your hands.
  • If needed, add additional flour one tablespoon at a time until you can form the mix into a ball. The dough will still be sticky.
  • Line second bowl with parchment paper and sprinkle flour in the bottom
  • Put the ball of dough onto the floured parchment paper in bowl and cover
  • Let rise for one hour
  • After dough has risen for 30 minutes put your covered Dutch Oven in the oven at 350℉ for the additional 30 minutes of rise time
  • Once dough has risen, carefully remove your Dutch Oven and place the bread in it's parchment paper inside the Dutch Oven and put the lid on. Place in 350℉ oven for 30 minutes
  • After the 30 minutes, remove the lid from the Dutch Oven and bake another 5 to 10 minutes until top of bread is golden brown
  • Remove from pan by lifting the corners of the parchment paper and set on rack to cool.

Notes

A favorite alternate flavor option is Parmesan and Rosemary.  To make this, substitute 2 Tablespoons of Rosemary for the bagel seasoning and add 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese.  Follow the other instructions as listed.
