This recipe is great to have on the pantry shelf for those days you're busy or the kids are helping in the kitchen. With all your bread ingredients pre-measured there is no worry about missing ingredients or not having something on hand. Equipment
- 1 Quart Size Jar
- 1 set measuring cups and spoons
- 1 funnel optional
Ingredients
- 1½ tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp Powdered Milk
- 3½ cups all purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp yeast
To Bake the Bread
- 1¼ cups warm water
Instructions
- If using a funnel, place funnel in the top of your jar for ease of adding ingredients
- Add ingredients in the following order, do not mix ingredients inside the jar as the yeast needs to be separated from the salt
- Add salt, sugar and powdered milk to the bottom of the jar.
- Add Flour, lightly tapping the jar on a towel if needed to get all the flour into the jar.
- Add yeast last on top of the flour.
- The jar can be vacuum sealed or capped to go on the shelf for storage. Sealed and stored properly this mix should easily last a year or longer on the shelf
To Make The Bread
- Pour contents of jar into a medium mixing bowl, add warm water and mix thoroughly
- Once mixed, knead dough for five minutes or until smooth
- Form dough into a ball and place into a lightly oiled bowl and cover. Place bowl in a warm place to rise for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
- Once dough has risen, remove from bowl, punch down and reform into loaf, rolls or buns and allow to rise a second time for about 30 minutes to an hour until it doubles in size again.
- Bake in a pre-heated oven at 420℉ for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven, remove from pan and allow to cool before storing
