
Mom's Applesauce
This applesauce recipe has been handed down through the family for years and is a favorite of the whole family. It's easy to make and has no fancy ingredients. Whether you make this to eat right away, to can for your pantry, or to freeze dry for longer term storage, this is a delicious treat you'll make year after year.
Equipment
- 1 paring knife and cutting board
- 1 Large Bowl
- 1 Large Pot
- 1 set measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients
- 20 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup water
- 3/4 cup *sugar *if canning increase sugar to 1 cup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 cup *lemon juice *ONLY NEEDED IF CANNING
Instructions
- Core, peel and slice apples to have 20 cups.
- Put into pot and add the ½ cup water to prevent sticking; cook over low to medium heat. Cook apples, stirring often, until apples are soft enough to mash.
- Mash with a potato masher to desired texture.
- Add sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg (and lemon if canning) and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Can be served hot or cold.

Notes
If you like your applesauce very smooth you can take the mashed applesauce and run it through your blender or food processor to get the texture you like.
